It didn't take my gregarious husband long to find great people in the food and drink world interested in the exceptional elderberry! Jen, the voice behind Aperitif Friday is one of those great people. Aperitif Friday is dedicated to the cultivation and celebration of that special family time at the end of a long work week. Friday evenings in Jen's home often begin with a fun cocktail and feature delicious home-made meals prepared on the grill. It's a special time for she and her family to enjoy each other's company, reminisce and dream together and discuss plans for the coming weekend. Jen is always on the look out for new and different ingredients for her signature cocktails so Rodger happily sent her our Elderberry Extract, Elderberry Wellness Syrup and Elderflower Ginger Syrup.
Elderberry Martini and Norm's Old Fashioned from Aperitif Friday
Rodger and I are the chiefs, cooks and bottle washers for Norm's Farms and we often cover for each other depending on schedules and looming deadlines. Of the two of us, Rodger is most definitely the extrovert and a natural-born networker. I recently enrolled Norm's Farms in a food networking platform named Hubba and Rodger happily took the lead to find fellow foodies with whom he could share the good word and great taste of elderberry.
For Jen, it was "love at first sip!" Rather than create one cocktail, Jen came up with two and has a third cocktail in mind for the fall using our Wellness Syrup and Bourbon. The Elderberry Martini is both beautiful and delicious, and Jen loves the fact that our Elderberry Extract is high in antioxidants and has a tart flavor, somewhat like cranberry juice. The addition of our Elderflower Ginger Syrup gives the drink a hint of sweetness and spice all at the same time. You can make this cocktail yourself by following Jen's recipe.
The Norm's Old Fashioned (such a perfect name!) features classic Angostura bitters, lemon juice, our Elderflower Ginger Syrup, and Copper and King’s Brandy with a club soda topping. This drink is another winner! You can get the recipe here, and while you are on Jen's blog, do take time to check out her other amazing recipes; she has everything you need to create your own Aperitif Friday!
